Nevada offers a few opportunities for an associate degree in nursing at community colleges located in Las Vegas, Elko and Henderson. The main venue for advanced degrees in this state exist at the University of Nevada, with campus locations in Las Vegas and Reno. The school of nursing in Las Vegas provides students with the ability to earn a BSN, MSN or doctoral degree, with focuses in nurse education, family or pediatric practice. The Orvis School of Nursing in Reno offers the BSN and MSN along with a joint MSN/MPH degree (Master of Science in Nursing/Master of Public Health). The focuses for the MSN degree are the same as those offered in Las Vegas.
Statewide, the average salaries for LPN, RN and specialty nurses range between $13,000 and $74,000 annually, depending upon degree earned, years in the field, expertise and size of the health facility. Graduates who seek employment in Nevada can look to Las Vegas for the largest employers and the most advanced technology available statewide. Other larger health care facilities outside Las Vegas include the 281-bed Summerlin Hospital Medical center, and the Nevada Cancer Institute, also located in Summerlin. The 100-bed Northern Nevada Medical Center, located in Sparks, offers relocation packages for qualified RNs. St. Rose Dominican Hospital in Henderson handles more than 20,000 inpatient and 96,000 outpatient visits every year, and Saint Mary’s Hospital and the Sierra Heart Institute are located in Reno. Other health care facilities exist in towns such as Gardnerville, Ely, Lovelock and Winnemucca.
